Surprise Proposal Pivot!
When I got there, I had a moment.
Because the pond at Constitution Gardens?
It had been drained!
I’m standing there at Signers Memorial thinking, a muddy empty pond was not the romantic backdrop I was looking for here.
Although this is exactly the kind of thing that makes proposal photography what it is, and you don’t panic, you pivot.
I started looking around and my eyes locked on the hill just above the pond area. I quickly contacted my client and told him about the new spot he was to aim for. Once I was up on the hill, it really felt like an instant upgrade. The view opened up, and it felt private, and more intentional. This perfect little spot by the tree overlooking the pond was just waiting for them.
The look on her face when she realized what was happening are the moments I live for. The “wait… are you serious?” energy, and then the easiest "yes" ever.
That’s the thing about surprise proposals, no matter how carefully you plan them, there can be an added surprise you didn't plan for. Somehow, that component is part of what ends up making them perfect.
So if you’re wondering whether everything has to go exactly right for your proposal to be beautiful…
It doesn’t.
You just need the moment, and someone who knows how to pivot when it's necessary!
We included mom flying in from Texas for a second surprise!
